CRESICA: The Culmination of Collective Thinking
By creating the Consortium for Research, Higher Education and Innovation in New Caledonia (CRESICA), the University of New Caledonia (UNC) and research organisations in New Caledonia wanted to better coordinate their training, research and innovation activities and thus optimise their exchanges with policy makers, public institutions, the economic sector and civil society.
As an active contributor in the structuring of CRESICA, the UNC ensures that its main research axes and its training opportunity (particularly at master and doctoral levels) remain within the themes of this federating network which is designed to respond to the major challenges faced by New Caledonia.

The Framework of Action
CRESICA’s unique challenges relate to New Caledonia’s natural resources, the biodiversity of its terrestrial and marine environments, and its resources for societal innovation and health. The framework favours an integrated approach through the continuum from the mine catchment areas to the lagoon and is based on three thematic objectives and two cross-cutting axes.
Thematic Objectives
- The development of natural capital (biodiversity, mines and the environment)
- Improving health in relation to the environment and societies
- Assisting institutional, societal and cultural developments
Cross-cutting Axes
- Insularity-globalisation
- Climate change
